5th Aug, 2011 ( Friday )
Dear Residents of Taman Jurong,
As we celebrate our 46th year as a nation, let’s remember what we share together as Singaporeans. Our schools. Our neighbourhoods, lakes and parks. A city for young and old. Jobs for all, and our attitude as Singaporeans, of wanting to work for something better. Our peace and multi-racial harmony. And our ability to come together to overcome the difficulties and crises that hit us from time to time.
We are not perfect, and have more to do. There is more to do to create better jobs and help all Singaporeans share in Singapore’s growth, so that no one is left behind. More to do, to improve the quality of life for all Singaporeans.
But let’s remember what we share as Singaporeans, which many other countries in Asia as well as in the West still hope for. Let’s make sure we never give up these things we share, even as we work together to make Singapore an even a better place for all Singaporeans. It is what we share, through good times and bad, that makes up our Singapore Spirit.
Majulah Singapura!
Best Wishes from Tharman Shanmugaratnam
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Finance, Minister for Manpower and MP for Jurong GRC
