The Jurong GRC New Citizens Ceremony was held on 2 January 2010 afternoon at the Taman Jurong Community Club Hall. The simple?yet formal ceremony for 296 new citizens?residing in Jurong GRC was graced by Minister Tharman and key grassroots leaders from Jurong GRC.

It was all smiles and excitement as?each new citizen, be it?young or old,?received his or her citizenship certificate and pink identity card from Minister Tharman. There were those who came here at a very young age with their families and so, taking up Singapore citizenship was a natural thing for them. There were those who came here to pursue their higher education and after working for a few years, realised that this was the place they would want to call home. Of course, there were those who had always admired Singapore for its standard of living, harmonious society and safe streets and so, becoming a citizen was a dream come true. Regardless of their reasons for taking up citizenship, they all had one thing in common?- they recited the?Singapore Pledge and sang the National Anthem with pride.
