Set up since 2008, the Tharman Shanmugaratnam Book Prize is sponsored by Minister Tharman, who is also the Advisor to Taman Jurong's Grassroots Organisations. The Book Prize aims to encourage students in Taman Jurong to excel in the four categories of Academic, Community Service, Co-Curricular and Leadership. Candidates are nominated by Principals of Lakeside Primary, Jurong Secondary School and Yuan Ching Secondary School for consideration by the Taman Jurong Citizens' Consultative Committee.
