Asia Dragon Dance Competition – TJ is 2nd

We are pleased to inform that our Joo Boon Dragon Dance team from Taman Jurong came in 2nd position in the Asia Dragon Dance Competition organised by Taiwan. The first position was clinched by the team from PRC and the 3rd was a Malaysia team.
 
Congratulation to our Dragon Dance team for their great achievement!!

Minister Tharman’s Market Walkabout

Minister Tharman and the grassroots leaders had another regular walkabout at the Taman Jurong Food Centre on 7 Mar (Sun) at about 11am. Our residents were pleased to meet Minister Tharman and the team.

Lunar New Year Celebrations 2010

The Taman Jurong Lunar New Year Celebrations 2010 was held at the Community Club Foyer and Hall on 28 Feb (Sun) morning. More than 1200 residents were treated to a fantastic display of dragon dance, chinese orchestra, acrobatics and even Indian Dance. There were also children’s favorites such as inflatables, pop-corn, candy floss. But for the young children, nothing beats the excitement of getting a Hong Bao (red packet) from Mr and Mrs Tharman.

Minister Tharman(尚达曼) Says......

As we enter 2010, we can see better times ahead.

We went through tough times in Singapore in 2009. But through the Resilience Package, and with unions, employers and the Government working closely together, we were able to create more jobs for Singaporeans despite the recession.

Our economy has now turned the corner. We have developed strategies for Singapore’s next 10 years’ of growth and to raise productivity in every area of the economy, so that Singaporeans can look forward to further improvement in their standard of living.

There are families who continue to be in difficulties. The government will assist them and help their breadwinners get training and secure jobs as quickly as possible. Through our own community efforts in Taman Jurong, we are also helping many more families – especially those with children in schools or with elderly family members to support.  

Taman Jurong remains a comfortable and peaceful place to live in. It will only get better as we keep improving our neighbourhood facilities. Jurong Lake is being redeveloped. It will be a beautiful place to exercise and relax. Our community life is also active, with young and old involved in many activities of interest.

Please continue to let me have feedback on how we can improve Taman Jurong. Any resident with problems can also come and meet me and our volunteers at the Meet-the-People Session at Block 184 on Monday evenings from 7.30pm onwards.

Let us continue to build a warm and cohesive community together. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and all the best for 2010!
