According to the Health Science Authority (HSA), more than 100,000 units of blood are required for transfusion by patients in Singapore every year, equivalent to 15 units of blood are used in Singapore every hour of the day
After blood is collected, it goes through stringent testing at the laboratories of the HSA to check for various diseases and blood typing. It also gets separated into the three components — red blood cells, platelets, and plasma — for storage and distribution to hospitals.
There will be a blood donation drive at Taman Jurong CC on 29 May 2016 (Sun), from 10am - 4pm.
