Jurong Lake Run 2011
Over 5,000 people participated in western Singapore’s first major running event, the Jurong Lake Run. DPM Tharman said the event, aimed at youths, will become a signature event every year.
The event was organised by a group of young Singaporeans and supported by the People Association, Taman Jurong Community Sports Club and Taman Jurong Citizens’ Consultative Committee. Runners could choose between a 10-kilometre competitive race or a five-kilometre fun run. Up to $12,000 worth of prizes were up for grabs for the competitive run.
DPM Tharman was at the event handing out prizes. Mr Tharman said: “The competitive runners were very enthusiastic. We had about almost 3,000 of them. But the non-competitive runners, there was a very good turnout, families especially. So we’re very glad that we’re off to a good start and this will be a signature race in the west each year.”
