Opening of Platform at Jurong East During Evening Peak Hours

Information from LTA

On 27 May 2011, the new platform at Jurong East MRT Station, constructed as part of the Jurong East Modification Project (JEMP) was opened for operation during the morning peak hours, from 7am to 9am on weekdays (except public holidays). The opening of this new platform was to facilitate the deployment of more trains on the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL) as part of our effort in improving the commuters’ travelling experiences on trains.

We are pleased to inform you that with effect from Tuesday, 27 December 2011, the operating hours for this platform will be extended by another hour in the morning i.e from 7am to 10am instead of 7am to 9am on weekdays (excluding Sat ,Sun and public holidays). At the same time, the platform will also be operational during the evening peak hours from 5pm to 8pm on weekdays (excluding Sat, Sun and public holidays).

In addition, 17 new trains will be progressively deployed on the North-South & East-West Line (NSEWL) from this month. Together with the 5 new trains added in May this year, this latest train addition will expand the carrying capacity on the two lines by 15%.

With this, commuters can look forward to shorter waiting times of 2 to 3 minutes at the busiest stretches, compared to the current 2.5 to 4 minutes. The additional trains will also enable SMRT to run more train trips during the morning and evening peak hours. This, in turn, will allow trains to run at the minimum headways of 2 minutes for a longer period of about one hour instead of 45 minutes today along stretches of the NSEWL during the morning and evening peak hours.
